It's "hump day" everyone. Welcome to Wonderful Wednesday. The work week is halfway done and hey, it's almost Christmas!!!

I'm Nikki Sinclaire, an author of erotic Sci-fi romance. One of the most asked questions I get is why do I write Sci-fi as opposed to the many other genres available. The answer is simple. It's what I love! It's my passion! I’m very particular about this sub-genre, as I believe that it encompasses everything that I consider fun in a book. A Nikki Sinclaire novel has to be a story about first and foremost, romance. It is about the characters and their relationships to one another.

Growing up, I was an avid Star Trek fan. What made the show successful? The special effects? Star Trek’s special effects were novel for their time and took up a significant (again, for its time) portion of the show’s budget. They were sophisticated enough, in fact, that their costs eventually led to the show’s cancellation. Star Trek was simply too expensive to produce. The gadgets on the show were clearly ahead of their time, and I would argue, gave us a view into the future. Do today’s tablet notebook computers remind you of Nurse Chapel’s electronic note pad? Was that a floppy disk, CD or DVD that Mr. Spock kept loading data into his science station from?

The show’s special effects, however, served as the backdrop for the real story. The story of the relationships between the characters. Spock’s lack of emotion, versus McCoy’s criticisms, paired with Scotty’s love for the ship and all led by Kirk’s Alpha Male aggressive leadership style.

My novels follow that same style. Reading The Virtual Man you will be exposed to luxury starships, futuristic weaponry, sophisticated gadgets, nano-technology and cybernetic implants. All these “gadgets”, however, are part of the setting for the story, not the main event. The book is really about the relationships, emotions and passions of the human race. Yes, the book is set 500 years in the future, but we fragile, flawed and stubborn humans really haven’t changed much. Love is still able to move mountains. Greed is still a motivation for betrayal. Let's face it, our needs aren’t going to be any different in the 25th century than they are right now in the 21st century. Only the setting will change ...

I want to hear from you. What do YOU think? Comments please!!!

Hey Nikki, great post!!

I'm an avid Star Trek fan as well. My hubby and I used to watch every episode including the spin-offs like Deep Space nine.

I'm a sci-fi nerd, what can I say. LOL
